    Absinthe ordinaire 750ml

Absinthe ordinaire Liqueur Legend has it the first true Absinthe recipe was created by Dr. Pierre Ordinaire in 1792 in rural France. Dr. Pierre Ordinaire, shortly after the French revolution, traveled around the Val de Travers on his faithful horse Rocket and sold his Absinthe initially as an all-purpose cure-all, an “elixir.” Dr. Ordinaire’s talents for apothecary and medicine yielded an elixir that may have been designed as a medicinal invention, but over time it became widely accepted as a recreational drink. People loved the taste and the effect, some even claimed to be cured of all their ailments. When Dr. Ordinaire died, the recipe ended up mysteriously in the hands of the sisters Henriod at the beginning of the 19th century. The sisters carried on producing this elixir, mostly from their home, but the pleasant aroma, taste and experience continued building the popularity of this historical drink. By the middle of the 18th century, the French troops fighting in Algeria returned to France bringing with them a taste for this anise flavored “elixir,” mostly due to a similar anisette elixir that was being administered to the troops as a fever preventative. It was at this time that Dr Ordinaire’s Absinthe was sold by the sisters and then mass produced for an affordable price. The onset of mass production caused the price of absinthe to drop significantly and the market expanded. Since the cafés were an extremely popular place to socialize, it became common practice for a wide array of people to enjoy Absinthe Ordinaire during L'Heure Verte, or the Green Hour because of Absinthe Ordinaire’s great taste and affordable price. This exciting drink now began rapidly traveling across the café tables from the south of France to the café tables of Montmartre in Paris, where his now legendary and mystical Absinthe would end up gracing the lips of artists, musicians, writers and poets alike, ultimately becoming the symbol of the free and easy bohemian spirit for the masses. We wonder if Dr. Ordinaire had any idea his “elixir” could have turned into something so magnificent.Absinthe Ordinaire recalls one of the original and most commercially successful Absinthe recipes during the glittering era of La Belle Époque Paris. Absinthe Ordinaire is handcrafted in rural southern France using only the highest quality distillation methods and ingredients. Absinthe Ordinaire is made from natural, traditional Absinthe botanicals, not oils or essences, including a full measure of the legendary botanical Wormwood or Artemisia Absinthium. Some of the other botanicals that give Absinthe Ordinaire its unique and flavorful taste profile include Sweet Anise, Star Anise, Sweet Balm, Mugwort (rumored to stir human passions, perhaps the French touch!) and peppermint. Wormwood, or Artemisia Absinthium, is a perennial herb which contains the volatile oil thujone. Wormwood is a hardy perennial, almost shrubby, growing up to 4 feet tall, its spreading branches covered with white, silky hairs. The leaves are spread apart and have an intense, persistent bitter flavor. The leaves are very pungent. They produce a sharp, acrid smell. Wormwood grows best in poor, dry sandy soils in a sunny location. Absinthe Ordinaire is made in Forcalquier at Distilleries-Domaines de Provence in the south of France. It is distilled using the same artisanal methods from late nineteenth century Paris. Absinthe Ordinaire recalls one of the earliest absinthe recipes and first commercially successful absinthe brand. Absinthe Ordinaire is made from natural, traditional Absinthe botanicals, not oils or essences, including a full measure of the legendary botanical Wormwood or Artemisia Absinthium. Wormwood grows naturally on uncultivated, arid ground, on rocky slopes and at the edge of footpaths and fields. Absinthe Ordinaire is technically classified as a Verte. Verte ("green" in French) absinthe begins as a Blanche (white in French). The distillate is altered by a coloring step whereby a mixture of herbs comes in contact with the clear distillate. This process intensifies the herbal flavor, as well as imparts an emerald green hue from the chlorophyll in the herbs. This coloration step is a technique created and mastered by the French. Among the herbs used in this step for Absinthe Ordinaire are Melissa, Wormwood, Mugwort and Peppermint. and fields. Absinthe Ordinaire is lighter at 92 proof, a true sipping “café” absinthe. Do not drink Absinthe Ordinaire straight. Absinthe Ordinaire should be diluted with cold water. For the first time since it was banned in 1912 for its mythic effects, you can now enjoy the preferred drink of the massive bohemian counterculture during the heady days of la belle époque Paris. Pernod Absinthe 136 750ml

Pernod Absinthe 68% Alcohol (136 proof)Made with grande wormwood (containing Thujone)Bright Green Color Legend traditionally attributes the creation of an absinthe elixir to Mother Henroid of Couvet of Val de Travers, in the Canton of Neuchatel in Switzerland who concocted it from plants that she found in the mountains. The elixir was adopted by a French doctor working in Switzerland named Dr. Pierre Ordinaire who rode through the hills, peddling a strange, yet patented medicine, which he dubbed his "absinthe elixir". Following the death of Doctor Ordinaire, the rustic recipe was perfected by his two local sisters, before being bought by a businessman named Major Dubied, who saw the potential to sell the elixir beyond medicinal purposes. Major Dubied, however, had no knowledge of the art of distilling. Therefore, he hired Henri-Louis Pernod, a 21 year old distiller to help set up a small absinthe distillery in 1798. The business prospered allowing Henri-Louis Pernod to found The Maison Pernod Fils distillery in Pontarlier in 1805. The first commercial absinthe distillery was officially born! Henri-Louis Pernod widowed and married the daughter of Major Dubied in 1807. Together they had a son Louis who grew up working with his father at the distillery. In 1827, Henri-Louis Pernod wanted to extend distribution. He split the markets between his sons Edouard, his eldest son from his first marriage, and Henri-Louis, born from his union with Emelie Dubied. Edouard exported Pernod to the United States and Henri-Louis assisted operation in France and the French colonies. By 1840, the family business had doubled for the Pernods as the popularity of the spirit grew swiftly. The branch distilleries expanded through family ties taking on recognizable label names as Maison Gempp-Pernod and Maison Legler Pernod. The main distillery was taken over by the grandsons of Henri-Louis Pernod in 1855, leading Pernod into the Absinthe boom of the 19th and early 20th century. bsinthe became one of the strongest symbols of its era with its enigmatic color and the ritual surrounding it. Its popularity was furthered by its reputation for being an addictive and hallucinogenic drug. As a result, by 1915 Absinthe had been banned in the United States (1912) and in other European countries. As a result, the Pernod Fils Company closed temporarily. It re-opened five years later when a controlled form of anise liquors was legalized with a new absinthe-free Pernod recipe - a 40% alcohol (80 proof) Anis spirit still sold today. For US consumers of Pernod Absinthe, though, only the legend of "The Green Fairy" remained until it was legalized again in 2007. St George Absinthe 750ml

St. George Absinthe Verte Bright golden green color, the St George Absinthe will astound the average lover of absinthes. The unique combinations and bold flavors are both creative and daring. Before the louche, there is a bit of heat with the star anise send a wave of spicy flavors that can best be compared to hopped up Big Red gum. Throw all that in with a bit of a wild flower honey and sweet and candy like flavor and you have just the beginning of the aroma and an extremely thick louche. After the louche, the same scents and flavor remain persistent with an addition of the smell of wormwood. The taste is dry with the typical slightly bitter but addictive and calling back for sip and sip. The overall finish is a combination of sweetness fennel, basil and other herbs that display a very slight lemon balm and anise. The slight remaining presence of numbing remains and the flavors linger for a while, most likely calling for a bit more to enjoy.
