When we're headed out on powder missions deep in the backcountry that require us to hop on a sled just to get there, the Backcountry Access Float E2 Turbo 25L avalanche airbag pack has us covered. With multiple stash pockets, a dedicated shovel/probe pocket, and BC Link radio compatibility, the Float E2 Turbo lets us stay out in the backcountry longer without worrying about having enough layers and water. Offering the same level of safety and storage as the regular Float E2 25L, this pack eliminates ski and snowboard carry options in favor of multiple shovel handle storage options and an insulated electronics pocket so our phones don't die on the way to the stash. Featuring the Alpride E2 airbag system, the Float E2 Turbo utilizes a supercapacitor to power the airbag compressor to offer fast, reliable deployment even in frigid temperatures.

The Float 42 Airbag Backpack is the largest of Backcountry Access' avalanche airbag line, designed to give for longer missions in the backcountry. Despite the bigger overall size, the included Float 2. 0 airbag system is 15% lighter than the previous model and about 30% smaller, meaning you can fit more gear in the pack, and features an ergonomic trigger mount so you can feel confident deploying the airbag in an emergency, no matter if you're left or right-handed.

    Backcountry Access Float 2.0 Cylinder

    Backcountry Access Float 2.0 Cylinder

Airbag packs can get pretty heavy after a full day on the skintrack—that's why Backcountry Access designed its new Float 2. 0 Cylinder to be 30% smaller and 15% lighter than the previous Float 1. 0 engine. Saving weight is always great, but where this cylinder really shines is with its volume (or lack thereof). The compact cylinder fits inside the airbag compartment to free up valuable space inside the main pocket, so you can fit that extra layer or mug of hot tea, and it activates at a psi of 3,000 instead of the 2,700 of the Float 1. 0.

    Backcountry Access Slope Meter

Before we pick out our line, we could just eyeball it and say "Ehhhh, I think it's probably roughly maybe about a 40-degree slope, I guess", or we could whip out the Backcountry Access Slope Meter and get a real reading of the angle of the slope you're checking out. BCA hooked this inclinometer up with red, orange, and yellow markings to easily point out the most dangerous slope angles, and included a cut-out with the same radius as our pole basket so we can get the most accurate reading.
