Scotch Bonnet - Red peppers are a hot Jamaican pepper that are often used in Caribbean dishes. Peppers are a little less pungent than habanero peppers but still are packed with spice. Each one is 1” long and matures from green to red with wrinkled skin. Plants are green with white flowers and grow 36-48” tall. Sow seeds ¼” deep indoors and transplant seedlings to full sun in late spring. A small amount of these peppers can add heat to a large dish.

Ornamental peppers add cheery novelty to the garden but most aren t worth eating. This 2015 AAS National Award-winning \ornamedible\ is eye candy that will delight your taste buds too. Pretty N Sweet Pepper produces a profusion of conical fruit that you can harvest yellow orange or red. Similar to Sweet Pickle but earlier sweeter and more substantial. Fruits average 1-1.5 inches long and weigh approximately an ounce each. Plants are compact and well suited to containers.

Miniature Chocolate Bell peppers are 2” long and 2” wide with thick walls and sweet flavor. Each one is a deep brown. Plants are 24” tall with thick green foliage and small white flowers. Indoor sow seeds and transplant seedlings after 2-3 weeks to an area with full sun once the climate is warm. After 55-95 days or when peppers are at mature size and color they are ready to be harvested. These mini bell peppers are fantastic stuffed pickled or used in salads.

The pepper is approximately 6 long and weighs about 30 grams. The peppers are glossy and dark green color. Recommended for open field growing. Start seeds inside 6 weeks before last frost date (or 8 weeks before expected transplanting date). Keep soil warm until emergence. Seeds will not germinate in cool soil and planting out too early may affect plant vigor. Harden off plants carefully before transplanting. Prepare fertile well-drained soil. Transplant in late spring/summer (soil temperatures at least above 60°F) in a very warm and sunny location. Fertilize as needed. Too much nitrogen will produce lush foliage and few fruits. The young green peppers put gochu are crisy and flavorful. They are often used by dipping into jang fermented sauces and miso. Approximately 2988 seeds per ounce.

Nu Mex Joe E Parker peppers have medium heat and lots of flavor. Peppers grow 6-7” long with thick flesh and walls. They mature from green to become red but can be harvested in both green and red stages. Plants are 2.5’ tall with thick green foliage and productive yields. Sow seeds indoors ¼” deep in fertile soil and transplant seedlings when they are 2” tall and it is warm at night outside. After 65-75 days harvest peppers when they reach desired color and size. They are useful to make chili powder and salsas. They also are excellent grilled or sauteed as well as used to add some heat to other dishes.
