Spokeshaves are used to shape and smooth chair legs, wheel spokes and rods of all sorts. The design and function of the WoodRiver Adjustable Spokeshave is based on the Stanley No. 84 Razor Spokeshave. The WoodRiver blade is thicker than the original but depth of cut adjustment utilizing the front shoe is virtually identical and of course, it is much heavier being made of ductile iron. We actually found the added weight at a tad over 1 lb. aids control of the shave when using one hand. This, combined with the adjustable shoe for depth control will make this one of your favorite hand tools. We've changed the shape of the rear tote and increased the diameter of the blade adjustment wheel to make advancing the blade a bit easier. We've made numerous changes to the castings that result in better "feedback" and a solid feel to the user.
