Mercy Dee (born Mercy Davis Walton, August 3, 1915 - December 2, 1962) was a jump blues pianist who found fame after spending years working the fields in Texas. Troublesome Minds is a testament to the natural talent Mercy Dee possessed when it came to picking up rhythms from his blues background and melding them with the'style of Texas pianists. The junction of the two styles plus Mercy Dee's own prolific lyricism made him into a popular singer and performer on not just the West Coast, but across the country. The'songs range from humorous to self-pitying, all are from the heart of Mercy Dee.

Not all eight members of the California Cajun Orchestra can trace their ancestry to Cajun roots. Their musical roots, however, are firmly planted in the Cajun genre, and they honed their music by playing hundreds of dances throughout California over an eight-year period. Their debut recording, Not Lonesome Anymore is a collection of 17 songs featuring the waltz and two-step rhythms of and traditional Cajun music. Named a National Heritage Fellow in 2012, Flaco has been touring and recording since the 1950s, first with his father Santiago Jimenez and then with his own band. The Whitetop Mountain Band draws its name from the second highest independent mountain peak in the Virginia Appalachian mountain range. The band's nucleus consists of the Spencer family (husband Thornton on fiddle, wife Emily on banjo and vocals, and daughter Martha on guitar, banjo and vocals). On this recording, they are joined by Spencer Pennington on guitar and vocals with Michelle Lyle on string bass. The band's musical inspiration comes from the tri-state region of southwestern Virginia, western North Carolina and eastern Tennessee; an area rich in Appalachian string band music. This is their only recording for Arhoolie.
